Umumnya manusia tidur 6-8 jam perhari sehingga bisa dikatakan banwa sepertiga hidup kita dalam keadaan tidur. Kebutuhan fisiologi tidur belum dimengerti sepenuhnya. Kita mengira bahwa tidur merupakan suatu proses yang pasif, ternyata tidur merupakan proses aktif.
Ada 2 fase utama dalam tidur yaitu fase Non-REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement) dan fase REM sleep (tidur bermimpi) dimana semua otot menjadi atonia (tidak mempunyai tonus), relaksasi total. Umumnya 75% tidur kita berada di fase Non-REM dan 25% di fase REM. Fase REM diduga penting untuk meperbaiki kondisi tubuh, rejuvenation, memori dan well being.
APA YANG TERJADI JIKA TIDUR TERGANGGU?
Kita akan menjadi cape, sulit berkonsentrasi, reflex melambat, rasa lemah, gangguan memori, iritabilitas dan cenderung mengalami kecelakaan lalu lintas.
